! From 1838 to 1845 there are several lawsuits recorded in Fleming Co. Kentucky between Sacherval and Royse, Sacherval and Hunts, Sacherval and Crains. Evidently it was over the land that he bought from these people.

! Between 1810 and 1882 I found 70 different lawsuits involving Foudray's in Fleming Co. Kentucky.

! Sacherval was a hatter, a profession that was handed down throughout the earlier generations of the Foudray's. He lived in Fleming Co. as well as Bath Co. Kentucky.

! In 1815 Samuel Derrick Foudray could not be found by the tax col- lector. He might have been in another county or state briefly. By 1820 he was back in Fleming Co. Kentucky.

! Samuel Derrick Foudray evidently moved quite a bit. He was born in Wilmington, New Castle Co., Delaware. He married there and his 1st son was born there. By 1790 he was listed as a hatter in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. By 1795 his daughter Ann Foudray was born in Maryland. In 1804 Sacherval, our family line, was born in Fleming Co., Kentucky. On the 1790 Census it lists in his family 5 males 16 & up. 1 male under 16. And 2 females. This probably means I don't have all of his children.

! Samuel Derrick Foudray and Anne Wood were married in the Francis Asbury Church in Wilmington, Delaware.

! Samuel Foudray was a Hatter by trade, of French descent. His paternal ancestors were reported to be extremely wealthy at the present day (1878), being numbered among the first families of France.

! Sam and Betty never had any children, but I remember an Irish Setter that used to come with them to visit they called Baby, the most beautiful and well minded dog I have ever seen.

! At one time or the other the Foudray's lived in Sunset, Ringles Mill, Goddard, Flemingsburg, and Poplar Plains all of which are in Fleming Co., Ky. they also lived in Bath Co., Ky. for a short period of time. I never found out why they moved around so much. They had owned land but sold it all off. finally Maggie and her brother John followed the rest of the family to Indiana Where they both died and are buried.

! The son's of Samuel Foudray cut & sold cord wood, Ginsing, Sassafras, and Bittersweet when they were young. They were also hunters, and trappers, drying their furs and selling them.

! Samuel P. Foudray and Marita Mae Helphenstine were 1st cousins, Samuel's mother, Nancy Lewellyn Helphenstine and Marita Mae's father David Nelson, were brother and sister.

! Samuel Foudray died in the spring of 1936. I was told he had cancer of the throat. Years previous to his death he was hit in the throat by a woodchip. They presume this is what caused the cancer.
