HE WAS A PART TIME CARPENTER, A TRADE I AM SURE WAS DRILLED INTO HIM BY HIS FATHER. HE ALSO WORKED FOR THE ZACHARY TAYLOR CEMETERY IN LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY, AS A GROUNDSKEEPER. JUST WHEN THINGS WERE STARTING TO LOOK UP FOR HIM, A NEW WIFE AND A NEW LIFE, HE FOUND OUT HE WAS SICK, AND GOING TO DIE. I WAS TOLD HE CRIED HARDER THAN HE EVER CRIED BEFORE, WHEN HE HAD TO TELL HIS PARENTS HE WAS SICK AND COULDN'T LIVE MUCH LONGER. I BELIEVE HE DIDN'T WANT TO HURT THEM, MORE, THAN HE DIDN'T WANT TO DIE. DANNY WAS LIKE THAT, I REMEMBER HIM BEING VERY TENDER-HEARTED WHEN WE WERE KIDS.

! Dorothy was born in Hillsboro, Kentucky, and resided there until about 6 years old. She attended her first year of school in Kentucky, and then the family moved to Marion, Indiana. They moved back and forth a couple of times before becoming permanent residents of Indiana. When very young, Dorothy was struck by Spinal Meningitis. So terribly ill, she almost died, but she was a fighter. She came through it all and learned to crawl and walk all over again. When applying for her Social Security, she gave me a list of jobs she had over her working years. It starts when she was 16, she lied about her age said she was 19 at the time. This job was at the Modern Laundry making $20. a week. She worked at the RCA plant in Marion for about a year. She also worked at Foster Forbes for a short time, the Glove Factory and Daly Shoe Factory in Marion, for a short time at Newberry's 5 and 10 store behind the soda fountain, also, in Indianapolis she worked at the RCA Plant for a short period of time. She also worked at Central Coil for a short period of time, about 1951/2. She She retired from the Osborn Midwest Paper Company with a disability, after hurting her back in 1967. This was her last job.

! Dorothy was married 4 times, twice to her first husband. By her first husband Eldo Peer, she had the following children: Eldo and Dorothy were Div. in Arkansas, in 1947, the last time. ! ! This article was found in the Marion paper, dated March 6, 1923. The article was in error as it listed the name as Gary. But personal knowledge about this 1st marriage of Jesse Gray alias Leslie V. Gray, and the baby being buried beside it's father on the Gray lot in the IOOF Cemetery, in Marion, made this writer aware that this was supposed to be Gray not Gary.

! Obit: Jesse Gray rites are set Wednesday Feb. 28, 1952. Leader Tribune paper of Marion, Indiana. Funeral services for Jesse J. Gray, 50, Marion welder who died at 7:10 A.M. Sunday at his home, 1520 S. Meridian St. shortly after he awoke, will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday at the George Street Wesleyan Methodist Church with Rev. Milo Bowsman, Pastor, in charge. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery. Born in Kentucky, Mr. Gray came to Indiana two years later. For the past four years, he had worked at the Marion Malleable Iron Works. He was a member of Union No. 299, American Federation of Labor. Relatives said he had gone to a physcian's office Saturday for treatment. Survivors include the widow, Anna: three daughters Mrs. Dorothy Rider, Indianapolis, Mrs. Bonnie Boots, and Mrs. Collum (Coleen) Ashmore, Marion: and three sons, Lionel, Jesse Leroy and James Russell, all of Marion: three sisters, Mrs. Harriet Ramsey, Mrs. Mae Westendorf and Mrs. Opal Rodman, all of Marion: two brothers, Ermila and Roy, both of Marion, and six grandchildren. The body will remain at 2901 S. Washington St., where friends may call.

! JESSE GRAY CAME TO INDIANA WHEN A CHILD. HE MARRIED MARY EMERICK FIRST, AND HAD A CHILD THAT DIED AS AN INFANT. HE WAS DIVORCED AND RETURNED TO KENTUCKY IN THE MIDDLE 1920'S. HE MARRIED ANNA LEE FOUDRAY IN KENTUCKY, UNDER AN ALIAS, LESLIE V. GRAY. I NEVER FOUND OUT FOR SURE JUST WHY HE WENT BY THIS FALSE NAME, BUT I DO KNOW THAT WHEN ANNA GRAY FILED FOR HER SOCIAL SECURITY, SHE HAD TO SHOW PROOF THAT LESLIE V. GRAY AND JESSE JAMES GRAY WERE ONE AND THE SAME. JESSE'S SISTERS WENT WITH ANNA TO THE SOCIAL SECURITY OFFICE AND VOUCHED FOR HER STORY, AND SHE WAS AWARDED HER SOCIAL SECURITY. MOST OF THE GRAY FAMILY WAS ALREADY IN INDIANA SO JESSE MOVED HIS LITTLE FAMILY UP TO INDIANA, ALSO. THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE EARLY 1930'S. DURING THE DEPRESSION, WORK WAS HARD TO FIND, SO THEY MOVED BACK TO KENTUCKY A COUPLE OF TIMES, BEFORE THEY PERMANENTLY BECAME RESIDENTS OF INDIANA.
