! OBIT: MARION CHRONCILE L. GENE MCFARLAND II L. Gene McFarland II, 34, 324 E. Charles St., Marion, died at 2 p.m. Friday in his home of natural causes. Mr. McFarland was born in Marion and lived there most of his life. He was a die setter at Active Products for 15 years. He was a Navy veteran and was a member of the UAW (Union) and Shady Hills Golf Club. He is survived by a daughter, Rachel, Marion; a son, Joshua, Marion; his parents, Larry and Coleen, Marion; a brother, Robert Ashmore, Swayzee; two sisters, Melody and Rayneen, both of Marion; and a paternal grandmother, Opal Elzey, Marion. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Raven Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, with the Rev. Al Willhouse officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory, Huntington County. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Nov. 11, 1957 - Dec. 13, 1991

! I want to include this from a letter to his parents after Gene's death. "I just wanted you to know how much Gene will be missed. -- Gene would go out of his way to help anybody. He was one of the last true gentlemen left in this world, you should be proud of that." I couldn't have said it any better, because Gene was a true gentlemen.

! OBIT: Marion Chronicle RALPH MCFARLAND Ralph "Matt" Mcfarland, 21, 223 W. 2nd St., Elkart, (Ind.), died Tuesday morning from injuries received in an auto accident on Ind. 15. Grant County Coroner David Devine listed the cause of death as massive internal injuries. Mr. McFarland was born in Marion and lived in Elkhart 18 months. He graduated from Marion High School in 1982. He was a production worker at the Anderson-Bolling Co., Elkhart, and was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. Survivors include one daughter, Heather McFarland, Elkhart; his parents, Larry and Coleen McFarland, Marion; two brothers, Robert Ashmore, and L. Gene McFarland, both of Marion; two sisters, Mrs. Brad (Melody) Kelly, and Rayneen Gause, Marion; paternal grandparents, Ray and Opal Elzey, Marion; and paternal great-grandfather, Ralph Brane, LaFountaine. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Raven Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, with the Rev. Sam Stone officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory, Huntington County. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Oct. 15, 1985

! Another tragedy in our family. Just 21 years old, and not hardly started his life. Another instance where there was no work for our young people, trying to start their lives, in Marion. He had to go somewhere else to find work. He had his accident driving back home, to Marion, to see his family. Matt was a very smart and active young man. He had the intelligence to go far in life.
