Notes

! Conrad Kremer (Kramer) is listed on the DAR Marker in the Mt. Hebron Cemetery as being a private in the Rev. War.

! Conrad Kremer was the administrator to the estate of his mother-in-law Catherine Helphinstine, who died leaving no will.

! Conrad Kremer (sometimes spelled Creamer) will is recorded in Will Book 2, Winchester courthouse, signed 30 March 1837.

! Conrad Kremer was with Washington at Valley Forge, and he owned several pieces of property in Winchester.

! The only link we can find for Conrad Kremer's heritage is from a book called "To Maryland from Overseas" the following; Cramer; Johann Georg Cramer, born 1730, at Carlsbrunn, Nassau-Sarrbrucken, died Sept. 27, 1784, Frederick Co., Md. Maria wife of George Cramer, born Jan. 17, 1763 (this could be wrong year), in Velcklinger, Nassau-Saarbruckenn daughter of Conrad Volck and Susanna Margreth his wife, Aug. 26, 1784, Frederick Co., Md. The reference is from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frederick Co. Md. (contributed by Michael Harrison Charles, a descendant of Conrad and Catharine).

! In a book called "The Story of the Palatines an Episode in Colonial History" by Sanford H. Cobb, Kremers are listed as Palatines coming to America in the early years of the colonies (1700'S) settling in New York and Penn. many of these early Palatines moved on to Va. and elsewhere. The early movements of these German pioneers took them through Washington Co., Md. and Frederick Co., Md. Also found Kremers on a passenger list dtd. 1739. Palatines imported from Rotterdam, last from Deal. This one was Heinrich Kremer.

! The following information was given to me by Donald M. Fehlings, descendant of Conrad and Catherine Kremer. Revolutionay War veteran. He was likely a "Hessian" soldier in the Fourth Grenadier Company (commanded by Major Matheus) of the Meritorious Grenadier Regiment von Rall, of the Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel, possibly under the listed name Conrath Kram, or Krammell, and captured at Trenton in December, 1776. He deserted from the British Army during the war, while a prisoner of war, and enlisted near Philadelphia as a private in Colonel Procter's Fourth Artillery Regiment, Pennsylvania Continental Line in May of 1777. He was encamped with his regiment at Valley Forge and at Morristown during two awful winters. He later reenlisted in Captain von Heer's Company (Von Heer was himself a Prussian) which was an independent unit of "Marechausee Corps" or Provost Marshal, military police, guard and escort dragoons assigned to Headquarters of the Main Army. He probably served in the battles of Brandywine, Germantown, Princeton and Monmouth. Early in his enlistment he attained the rank of Quartermaster Sergeant (the senior Non-Commissioned Officer) in the Marechausee Corps. After being honorably discharged from the Continental Army in June, 1780, upon expiration of his three year term of enlistment, he became the owner/proprietor of a hotel in Winchester that had a good reputation. He was also a dyer of yarns. He later became a town Constable, Sergeant at Arms, Clerk of the Market, and finally Superintendent of Police for the city of Winchester. He applied for a Revolutionary War pension on June 3, 1825, at Winchester, Virginia. He sold land to his son Peter Kremer in 1819 and 1820. He sold another tract to George Kremer in 1821. His name is on a bronze plaque at the entrance of the Mr. Hebron cemetery at Winchester along with names of other Revolutionary War soldiers buried in the Old Lutheran Cemetery there. However, his grave marker could not be found (most of the markers were of wood and had decayed). He died after a prolonged illness, nursed by his grand daughter Julia Frederick, and executed his will on 30 March 1837. His primary beneficiary under his will was his daughter Catherine Frederick, nee Kremer. (Revolutionary Pension File #S19372; Virgil D. White, ed., Genealogical Abstracts of Revolutionary War Pension Files, vol. 2 (Waynesboro, Tennessee: National Historical Publishing Co., 1991); Dola S. Tyler, Ed., Winchester, Virginia, Abstracts of Wills, 1794 - 1823 (Bowie, Md: Heritage Books, Inc. 1990). The Administrator of his personal estate following his death was son George Kremer recorded as appraising several items, 7 Aug. 1837.
