Samuel and Eva with their children, Viola, Margaret and Lester left
Richardson Co., Ne. in 1898 on an emigrant train coming as far west and
north to St. Edward, Ne. Here they spent the winter. While there the
children went to school. In the spring they continued on to Ericson
in 1899. They lived for 4 years in a half sod, half frame home west of
Ericson, now the Mentzer place. A daughter Ethel, was born here. In 1903
they moved up the Ceder River to a place that is now a part of the Virgil
Swett Ranch. In 1906 after the Kincaid Act had been established, not
wanting to stay in the sandhills, the family moved east of Ericson, where
Ken Kasselder lives. They resided on this place around 20 years. Jeff
died in 1930,(? DLW) the mother made her home in North Loup where she died
in 1936.
