! BLAIR FUNERAL HERE TUESDAY Hartford City News Times Oct 1931 obit. Funeral of Allen H. Blair Will Be Conducted From United Brethren Church The funeral of Allen H. Blair, 82, widley known north Wabash avenue resident, who died Saturday afternoon at his home here, will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the United Brethren Church, in charge of Rev. Roy Turley. Burial will be made in I.O.O.F. cemetery. Mr. Blair's death followed an extended illness with general com- plications. He had been an invalid for the past several years, and for the past five years, had been blind. Three days before Decoration Day, he suffered a stroke of paralysis and his decline from that time had been rapid. Mr. Blair realized the seriousness of his condition and on Friday, bid farewell to his daughter. During his period of invalidism, Mr. Blair frequently expressed his willingness to meet death to relieve his suffering. Death came peacefully at 2:35 o'clock Saturday after- noon at the home, 401 north Wabash avenue. Mr. Blair was born December 14th 1848 in Fayette county, Ohio, the son of Daniel and Hannah Blair. He spent his early life in Ohio and came to Indiana when about 21 years of age. The family first settled in Winchester then came to Blackford county. They first resided north- east of Hartford City. Mr. Blair was a carpenter by trade and later drove a huckster wagon. On May 8, 1881, Mr. Blair claimed as his wife Margaret Dearduff, the marriage being solemnized in Blackford county. Two children were born to this union, one child dying in infancy. The one surviving child is Miss Stella Blair, who has had the care of her father during his illness. She was devoted to him and his passing caused her deep sorrow. Mrs. Blair died March 18, 1891. Mr. Blair was one of a family of] 10 children, only one brother, Charles Blair, still surviving. Charles Blair resides northeast of Hartford City. Mr. Blair has resided at the home where he died for the past nine- teen years. He was a devout member of the United Brethren church and active in church work until his infirmities prevented him from taking active part in church affairs.
