Notes

! Copy of Lillie's death certificate said she died as the result of an auto accident. Dad said she had 2 wrecks, the first one took her fingers and the second one took her life. She was moved back to Indiana by train. She and George are bured side by side in the Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis, Ind. The newspaper from Winterhaven, Fla. had the following story about the wreck.

! HAVEN WOMAN IS SERIOUSLY HURT IN AUTO ACCIDENT Winter Haven, Jan. 8-- (Special)--Mrs. Lillie P. Rider of 335 16th street was in the Winter Haven General Hospital today suffering from what was described as "serious" head injuries following an automobile accident at 10:15 this morning. Her two children, a girl of three and a 13-year old boy were reported to have been bruised slightly in the collision which occurred on south Third street at Avenue K. It was understood the family had been here about three months, having moved to Winter Haven from Indiana. Police said Mrs. Rider was driving north on Third street when she suddenly stopped her car under the street light at the intersection. A citrus refuse truck owned by J.H. Woodall of Lakeland and operated by G.F. Poss had turned out to pass the auto and slammed into the left rear end as the car halted, crushing the left side of the smaller machine and shoving it into a fence, the officers stated. Mrs. Rider was reported to have been thrown clear of the car and was unconscious when taken to the hospital in an Ott-Laughlin ambulance. No charges had been made early this afternoon.

! MRS. RIDER SUCCUMBS TO HER INJURIES Winter Haven, Jan. 9-- (Special)--Mrs. Lillie P. Rider, 59, died at the General hospital yesterday at 2:30 p.m. from a fractured skull received in an automobile accident on south Third street yesterday morning. G.F. Poss of Highlands City, driver of the truck which struck into Mrs. Rider's car, was exonerated by a coroner's jury of blame in the accident. Justice of Peace E.R. Craig held the inquest. Deputy Sheriff Alvin G. Bush said Mrs. Rider stopped unexpectedly after passing the intersection at Avenue K. and Poss, who was following, swerved out to pass her before he realized she had halted. The corner of the steel body of the truck ripped into the back and left side of the sedan and Mrs. Rider was thrown from the car. Poss, a driver for J.H. Woodall of Lakeland, was hauling citrus refuse from the Hill Brothers plant in Bartow. Mrs. Rider came her about five months ago from Indianapolis and lived at 335 16th street northeast. She was born in Brownstown, Ind. The body is to be sent by train today or tomorrow to Indianapolis for services and interment with Ott-Laughlin in charge of local arrangements. Survivors include her husband, George W. Rider, Indianapolis; the mother, Mrs. Milton Wheasler, Indianapolis; three sons, Irwin, of Marlowe, Ind., Everett, of Marion, Ind. and Charles, stationed with the marines in China; three daughters, Mrs. Ruby McDade, Troy, Ind., Mrs. Mary Grubbs, of Bartow, and Mrs. Bessie Myers, Winter Haven, and two grandchildren who were riding with her at the time of the accident. Hattie Lee McNabb and Betty Arlene Myers. On the coroner's jury were J.W. Bowen, forman, S.P. Sessions, B.R. Barton, R.E. Weber, W.A. Burroughs and W.B. Craig. (Appears to be some sort of mistake here, 1st article says a boy and a girl were with her, second article says two girls. Also there were several more grandchildren survivors.)
