!OBIT. of Phebe Tucker Reece "Died"--. In Franklin, Johnson Co., Indiana, August 7th, Mrs. Phebe A. Reece, wife of Elder John Reece, of this place, in the 25th year of her age. In the character of sister Reece, there was much that was an ornament to her sex and an honor to the Christian name. Her disposition was naturally amiable and adapted to secure the highest esteem of all her acquaintances. But religion had taken such a possession of her heart and exerted such a control over her life as to render what was before lovely, far more endearing. She had been a professor of religion and had held an honorable standing in the 2nd Mount Pleasant Church more than six years, during which time she loved the church and labored and prayed for it's prosperity. Her efforts to promote her own personal piety were manifestly not in vain. She was deeply interested in the female prayer meeting and willing to share in its exercises, she was emphatically a helper to her husband, encouraging and aiding him in the punctual discharge of his duties of family religion, and also in his responsible work as a minister of the gospel. Her industrious labors and self-sacrificing economy were of great service in his temporal affairs. But how mysterious are the ways of Providence. As well adapted as she was to fill the responsible station of the minister's wife, she is in early life removed from earth and her loss is deeply deplored. Her death was sudden and unexpected, though she had been confined to her bed about thirteen days by the typhus fever, she was not considered to be particularly dangerous until perhaps two hours before her death, when she suddenly became worse, was partially deprived of her reason and soon expired. She died early in the morning of August 7th and in the evening of the same day her lifeless remains were carried to the chruch where she had formerly worshipped and the writer of this notice was called to deliver her funeral discourse. The sighs and tears of a deeply effected congregation testified to the high estimation in which she was held. But we fully believe that our loss is her gain, that while we weep, she rejoices. May the living lay it to heart and imitate her virtues and be prepared to meet her in heaven." Copied from the Christian Messenger of August 20, 1846
